Orang-Utan gegen Bagger, der seinen Lebensraum zerstört

2013 in Borneo:

Footage recently released by International Animal Rescue, shows harrowing footage of an orangutan trying to fight off a bulldozer destroying its habitat.

As loggers smash the base of a tree in the Ketapang District, West Borneo, heart-breaking video shows one of the great apes perched in the tree’s canopy as it falls to the floor.

In the footage – originally shot in 2013 but only released publicly now – the orangutan is clinging on as it slowly topples to the ground, the orangutan starts making its way down the trunk.

Australier tauscht zwei Kästen Bier gegen ein Einhorn

Ein Viehhändler in Südaustralien rettete ein magisches Einhornschaf auf einem Schlachthof. Der Besitzer wollte sich dort des Tieres wohl entledigen, woraufhin der Viehhändler ihm zwei Kisten Bier für das Schaf anbot. Das Einhorn, das – Überraschung – eigentlich keines ist, trägt den Namen Joey und soll nun zu Belustigungszwecken durch Australien gekarrt werden.

Bienen, die in Blüten schlafen

Der Natur-Fotograf Joe Neely hat neulich eher zufällig zwei Bienen dabei beobachtet, wie die sich in eine Blüte betteten und – na klar – die Kamera gezückt. Und diese Bienenart schläft wohl ganz gerne mal in Blüten. Voll schön.

“Wel,l I never knew that bees slept in flowers but as it turns out these bees (Diadasia diminuta) sleep in the orange flowers called Globe Mallows.” The Diadasia diminuta – or simply the globe mallow bee – collects pollen from its favorite food plant, globe mallow (Sphaeralcea). According to Forest Service at the United States Department of Agriculture, their nests are commonly found in partially compacted soil along the margins of dirt roads in the western United States. The globe mallow bees play a major role in the flower’s reproduction. “The bees become covered with pollen visiting the flowers [and] most of this pollen is groomed into the pollen basket on the hind legs and taken back to the nest,” the organization writes on its website. “However, some remains on the body and is deposited on the stigma of each of the next few globe mallow flowers visited. Thus, Diadasia contributes to globe mallow reproduction.

Noch. Ein, zwei Jahre später könnte in diesem Fall die Robbe vom hungrigen Eisbären überrascht werden.

Nach dem Mittagsschlaf

Als Kind fanden wir Mittagsschlaf alle total spießig. Schon allein, weil unsere Eltern welchen hielten und wir in dieser Zeit viel, viel wichtigere Dinge tun konnten, als zu schlafen. Wenn die Eltern dann aufstanden, sprachen sie darüber, dass sie sich „total gerädert“ fühlen würden und sich eigentlich gleich nochmal hinlegen könnten. Das verstanden wir dann noch weniger als das Bedürfnis, sich überhaupt mittags hinzulegen. Hatten die doch eben erst geschlafen.

Heute ist alles anders und Mittagsschlaf wirkt manches mal so gar nicht mehr komisch. Im Gegenteil. Und wenn wir dann aufstehen, fühlen wir uns „total gerädert“ und könnten uns glatt gleich nochmal hinlegen. Dabei sehen wir dann meistens genau so aus. Alle.
