Na, bisschen Hardcore/Gabber der guten alten Zeit gefällig? Mokum hat seinen kompletten Backcatalog auf Bandcamp geladen. Kann man streamen oder auch kaufen. Da fällt mir ein, ich wollte immer mal meine Terror Traxx Sammlung sortieren. Könnte ich eigentlich zur damals, 1993, ersten Mokum Compilation tun: F**king Hardcore #1.

Bandcamp reicht es offenbar nicht mehr nur als Host für Digitales und Partner für den partiellen Vertrieb physischer Tonträger im Netz zu stehen und möchte seinen Nutzern nun wohl noch mehr die Möglichkeit geben, ihre Musik unter etwaig Interessierte zu bringen. Nun auch mit hauseigenem Service, der Crowdfunding für Vinylpressungen ermöglichen soll: Create Vinyl with Bandcamp. Ein Gamechanger, der Soundcloud endgültig abhängen könnte. Schöne Sache, das!

Bandcamp ist der mir aktuell liebste Musikvertrieb im großen Internet. Zum einen, weil ich schnell und unkompliziert Musik kaufen kann, die es woanders gar nicht gibt, zum anderen, weil ich die Preise für sehr fair halte, wobei wohl auch tatsächlich ausreichend bei den jeweiligen Künstlern ankommt. Bandcamp aber kann noch mehr: Bandcamp zeigt Haltung und kündigt an, alle seine am kommenden Freitag gemachten Einnahmen an die Amerikanische Bürgerrechtsunion ACLU zu spenden. Freitag ist also ein guter Tag, mal wieder viel Geld bei Bandcamp zu lassen.

Ich mag das Konzept von Bandcamp sehr und kaufe dort einen großen Teil meiner Ambient/Downbeat/Bass-Music. Eigentlich fast alles aus diesen Genres. Zum einen, weil es manches davon nur auf Bandcamp gibt, zum anderen aber auch, weil ein im Vergleich zu anderen Plattformen doch lohnenswerter Teil meiner Zahlungen direkt bei den Künstlern ankommen.
Laut Billboard haben die dort vertreibenden Musiker seit dem Start von Bandcamp im Jahr 2008 $150 Millionen an verdient. $4.3 Millionen allein in den letzten 30 Tagen. Ich habe da jetzt keine Vergleichsmöglichkeiten und weiß auch nicht, wie sich das letztendlich auf die im Moment eine Million User verteilt. Auch nicht, inwiefern Musiker selber mit dem Vertrieb auf Bandcamp zufrieden sind, aber irgendwo muss die Kohle ja ankommen.
According to Billboard, digital retailer Bandcamp has paid artists $150M in eight years. This is a major number for an independent platform, particularly amidst such stiff competition like iTunes.
As Billboard notes, Bandcamp prides itself on transparency with the artists, taking only 15% from profit before decreasing to 10% after $5000 sold annually and 10% from physical goods, such as merch, vinyl and cassettes.
