Zwölf Stunden lang auf ein tropisches Korallenriff gucken 🐠

Wann, wenn nicht an einem Sonntag, kann man sich schon mal die Zeit nehmen, um 12 Stunden lang auf ein tropisches Korallenriff zu gucken? So wie auf dieses hier, das sich im Monterey Bay Aquarium befindet.

Wie die 1UP Crew ihr 3D-Korallen “Graffiti” gemacht hat

Zu Beginn diesen Jahres veröffentlichte die 1UP Crew Bilder des ersten 3D-Korallen “Graffiti”, welches sie zusammen mit PangeaSeed Foundation, Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans, dem Allcapsstore und Coral Guardian vor Nusa Penida auf Bali erschaffen hatten. Jetzt haben sie eine kurze Doku dazu nachgereicht. Immer noch eine geile Aktion.

The world has lost roughly half of its coral reef in the last 30 years.
Science estimate 90% of corals will die by 2050 due to human impact.
Without bold action we risk losing them all in OUR lifetime.

Das weltweit erste 3D-Korallen “Graffiti” der 1 UP Crew

Die Welt hat in den letzten 30 Jahren etwa die Hälfte ihrer Korallenriffs verloren. Nach Schätzungen der Wissenschaft könnten bis zum Jahr 2050 90 Prozent aller Korallen weltweit durch menschliche Einflüsse sterben.

Um darauf aufmerksam zu machen haben die PangeaSeed Foundation, Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans, dem Allcapsstore und Coral Guardian zusammen mit der 1 UP Crew das wohl weltweit erste Korallen Graffiti erschaffen. Unterwasser und in 3D.

Das „1 UP“ zeigenden Gitternetz liegt vor Nusa Penida auf Bali und wird anscheinend schon gut bevölkert. Sehr, sehr geil!

Die Farbenwelt der Korallen

Ich hatte hier vor zwei Jahren schon mal ein ähnliches Video, aber Korallen in Makro und Zeitraffer gehen immer. Der Farben wegen, die es so konzentriert und individuell woanders in der Tierwelt kaum gibt. Da müssen dann schon Pflanzen ran.

In this video we have tried to show movement and the enormous chromatic beauty of corals, a kind of marine animals that despite being one of the oldest animals on our planet, are mostly unknown.

You will discover its stunning beauty, its spectacular colors and the mystery of his movements.

To capture these images it was necessary to apply the technique of time lapse as the slow movements of these animals are very difficult to see at a glance.

Korallen in Makro und Slo-Mo

Wundervolles Video von Daniel Stoupin, das Riffbewohner wie Korallen und Schwämme in Slo-Mo zeigt. So bunt, so filigran, so unwirklich und doch da. Wow!

„Slow“ marine animals show their secret life under high magnification. Corals and sponges are very mobile creatures, but their motion is only detectable at different time scales compared to ours and requires time lapses to be seen. These animals build coral reefs and play crucial roles in the biosphere, yet we know almost nothing about their daily lives.

To make this little clip I took 150000 shots. Why so many? Because macro photography involves shallow depth of field. To extend it, I used focus stacking. Each frame of the video is actually a stack that consists of 3-12 shots where in-focus areas are merged. Just the intro and last scene are regular real-time footage. One frame required about 10 minutes of processing time (raw conversion + stacking). Unfortunately, the success rate was very low due to copious technical challenges and I spent almost 9 long months just to learn how to make these kinds of videos and understand how to work with these delicate creatures.
