Alle Aufnäher der NASA Apollo Missionen als Animation

Neil Smith kennt sich nicht nur im Umgang mit Animationssoftware aus, sondern hat offenbar auch einen Faible für das Apollo-Programm der NASA.

Das Apollo-Programm war ein Raumfahrt-Projekt der USA. Es brachte zum ersten und bislang einzigen Mal Menschen auf den Mond. Das Programm wurde von der National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) zwischen 1961 und 1972 betrieben.

In mehreren Schritten erprobte die NASA Techniken, die für eine Mondlandung wichtig sein würden, wie z.B. das Navigieren und Koppeln im All oder das Verlassen eines Raumschiffs im Raumanzug. Viele wichtige Tests wurden in der Vorbereitung im Gemini-Programm durchgeführt. Die erste bemannte Mondlandung selbst fand dann am 20. Juli 1969 statt. Nach fünf weiteren Landungen wurde das Programm 1972, auch aus Kostengründen, eingestellt. Seit der Zeit hat bis heute kein Mensch wieder den Mond betreten.

Offenbar dachte Smith, er könne seine Interessen ja mal zusammenbringen, und animierte für dieses Video alle 17 Apollo-Patches. Und das ist ihm ziemlich bis sehr geil gelungen.

I’ve always thought it would be cool to animate all the mission patches from NASA’s manned moon missions. So when looking for a short project to do while teaching myself a bit more about the Octane renderer for C4D, this seemed like the perfect choice. Lots of different materials, texturing techniques, etc.

Special thanks to NASA for all the super cool, high res public domain imagery, free 3D models and for going to the moon in the first place!!

Die Idee, USB-Speicher in der guten, alten Kassettenoptik an den geneigten Käufer zu bringen, ist nicht neu und wurde hier schon gezeigt. So charmant und wenigstens halbwegs individualisiert wie die australische Produktdesignerin Tiffany Roddis die Teile jetzt über Etsy anbietet, habe ich die vorher allerdings noch nicht gesehen. Und: Der Speicher ist die Kassette selbst.

Dominic Wilcox ist Künstler, Designer und Erfinder, im Sinne dessen, wie man sich einen Erfinder so vorstellt. Ein moderner Daniel Düsentrieb. Seine Erfindungen sind welche, die vielleicht nicht jeder braucht, die aber trotzdem mal erfunden werden mussten. Wer sonst macht sich seinen Smoothie in einem Fußball, den er über die Wiese kickt?

„Go straight off the wall“ said his dad and Dominic does just that. The film follows Dominic Wilcox, an artist / inventor / designer, on his quest for new ideas….Transforming the mundane and ordinary into something surprising, wondrous and strangely thought provoking.

Diskettenmammut

Wenn Prähistorisches aufeinandertrifft. Alex Solis, Designer aus Chicago, hat dieses Diskettenmammut entworfen, das man für $30.00 Dollar kaufen konnte. Praktischen Nutzen hat es nicht wirklich, muss Kunst ja aber auch gar nicht haben. Für die täglich kleine Freude auf dem Schreibtisch reicht es allemal und weil das Teil limitiert ist, wird es auf mehr als 200 Schreibtische nicht stehen. Dummerweise nicht auf meinem, denn es ist „Out of Stock“.

Kinetische Skulpturen als leuchtende Blüten: Shylight

Bei genügend Fallhöhe, in diesem Fall hier 9 Meter, öffnen sich die aus Seide genähten Blüten wie ein Fallschirmen und beginnen quasi zu blühen. Entwickelt, gebaut und genäht wurden die Shylights im Studio Drift, die vier Jahre daran werkelten.

Most man-made objects have a static form, while everything natural in this world, including people, are subject to constant metamorphosis and adaptation to their surroundings. Shylight is the result of a question: how can an inanimate object mimic those changes that express character and emotions? After a research period of five years, Studio Drift found the final form to express their idea. It is a lamp that looks alive because of unpredictable, natural-looking movements: it descends to blossom in all its glorious beauty, to subsequently close and retreat upwards again. The Shylight is created out of many layers of silk, which cause it to move with the grace of a dancer. The movement of the lights can be controlled by an iPhone or iPad, opening up a range of possibilities such as a choreography to music. The fact that people react in a spontaneous and emotional way to these performative sculptures shows how the philosophy of Studio Drift functions exactly as it was meant.

The Shylights have a fall distance of 9 meters making it possible to create large compositions for high ceilinged spaces. A shylight installation can always be expended with additional Shylights.

Pusteblumenlicht

Superschöne, kleine Leuchte, die wie eine Pusteblume aussieht. Leider mit Batterie und nicht ganz billig, dafür mit LED-Licht und echten Pusteblumensamen.

The fragile and luminous Dandelight is a delightful little object that reminds us of childhood optimism and early summer days. Expressing the utopian vision of its designers, the Dandelight marries nature and technology in the most poetic way possible. The design starts with a real dandelion, whose downy seeds have been painstakingly plucked then attached, one by one, to an LED, which connects to a battery via a slender copper stem. The final result is a light-emitting flower that captures one of the most beautiful spring moments in an eternal glow.

Anders wohnen: Vipp Shelter

Okay, dass hier dürfte unter die Kategorie Luxus fallen, ist aber dennoch sehr schön in seiner Vorstellung. Vipp macht recht kühle Design-Objekte für Wohnungen. Meistens mit viel Metal und fast immer viel zu teuer. Jetzt bauen sie zudem diesen „Shelter„, der an Container erinnert, aber natürlich sehr viel schöner ausgestattet ist. Viel Glas, viel Licht, viel Sicht. Fetzt in der Reihenhaussiedlung natürlich nicht so, aber im Wald am See, wäre das ganz wunderbar.

Mit ab 465.000 € alles andere als ein Schnäppchen und wohl nur für jene, die neben diesen eh schon alles andere haben. Aber man wird ja wohl mal gucken dürfen.

Eine Teekanne aus Bienenwaben

Der Designer Tomáš Gabzdil Libertíny und 60000 Bienen des holländischen Imkers Johan Beckers haben gemeinsam diese Teekanne aus Bienenwaben gebaut. Libertíny hat wohl ein Drahtgestell gebastelt, den Rest haben die Bienen dazu beigetragen. Der Name für die semi-natürlich geformte Skulptur ist „Thousand Years„, wie lange die Erschaffung tatsächlich gedauert hat, wird nicht ganz klar.

I have been always amazed by the power of nature and its epic force that drives forward slowly but steadily. The ‘made by bees’ project allowed me to plug in to this source and guide it to create a mythology as well as a proposal. The title of the work ‘Thousand Years’ is not only reflecting the amazing materials properties—beeswax can literally last thousands of years—but also the scale of human life in the face of the apparent eternity of the universe.

Eine über 50 Jahre alte, völlig unbenutzte Küche

Nathan Chandler hat sich im Jahre 2010 ein Haus gekauft. Machen manche ja so. In diesem fand er eine Küche vor, die 1956 eingebaut, aber niemals benutzt wurde. Warum kann er nicht sagen. Von weitem sieht die so alt jetzt nicht aus, aber ein Blick auf die technische Ausstattung verrät, dass die schon ein paar Tage auf der Arbeitsplatte hat. Die hatten 1956 schon Geschirrspüler?!? Hier ein ganzes Album auf Flickr, wo er die Fotos ablegte, um einen Käufer für die Küche zu finden. Mittlerweile ist sie wohl verkauft.

These vintage GE appliances are original to my house circa 1956. The house was never occupied and appliances were never used. The manuals were still taped to the appliances. I purchased the home in 2010 and I am selling: side-by-side wall refrigerator, wall oven, cooktop, double bowl washboard sink, and dishwasher.
