Ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher, das hier nicht schon einmal gehabt zu haben, habe es auf die Schnelle auch nicht gefunden. Deshalb der Vollständigkeit halber: NASA Space Sound.

Ursprünglich gab es dazu vor Jahren auch mal ein Projekt, welches den Klang des Alls als Live-Stream auf die Erde und in die Rechner sendete. Läuft bei mir hier gerade nicht mehr, kann sein, dass der mittlerweile Offline ist.

Listeners will hear the acoustic output of radio telescopes live. The content of the live transmission will depend on the objects being observed by partner telescopes. On any given occasion listeners may hear the planet Jupiter and its interaction with its moons, radiation from the Sun, activity from far-off pulsars or other astronomical phenomena.

Satellitenaufnahmen eines riesigen Feuers in Alaska

Seit acht Tagen brennt in Südalaska ein Feuer, das zwischenzeitlich eine Fläche der Größe Chicagos annahm. Aktuell brennt es immer noch. Der NASA-Satellit Landsat-8 hat Fotos davon gemacht. Oben das Original, unten eine nachcolourierte Variante davon.

Spring came early to southern Alaska in 2014, bringing warm and dry weather. By the end of May, vegetation was already primed to burn. So when a fire broke out on the Kenai Peninsula on the evening of May 19, 2014, it quickly blew up into a massive wildfire. Called the Funny River Fire, it had burned more than 43,000 acres by 5:30 p.m. local time on May 21.

Live HD-Stream von der ISS und Musik

Space Night war gestern, heute ist Live-Streaming von der ISS. Und den Sound dazu kann man ganz alleine auswählen. Und wer wissen möchte, wo genau die ISS sich gerade befindet, kann das hier nachsehen.

Fotos von der ISS: nachts über Nordkorea

Ende Januar ist die ISS über Ostasien geflogen und hat, wie schon über anderen Teilen des Planeten Nachtaufnahmen Fotos von den Landstrichen gemacht, die sie gerade überflogen hat. Hier unter anderem von Nordkorea. Und da ist es bei Nacht ganz schön dunkel. Hier als Kartenversion. Da ist nicht etwas Wasser zwischen oder so.

Flying over East Asia, astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) took this night image of the Korean Peninsula. Unlike daylight images, city lights at night illustrate dramatically the relative economic importance of cities, as gauged by relative size. In this north-looking view, it is immediately obvious that greater Seoul is a major city and that the port of Gunsan is minor by comparison. There are 25.6 million people in the Seoul metropolitan area—more than half of South Korea’s citizens—while Gunsan’s population is 280,000.

North Korea is almost completely dark compared to neighboring South Korea and China. The darkened land appears as if it were a patch of water joining the Yellow Sea to the Sea of Japan. Its capital city, Pyongyang, appears like a small island, despite a population of 3.26 million (as of 2008). The light emission from Pyongyang is equivalent to the smaller towns in South Korea.

360° einer Monddrehung, hochaufgelöst und aufgenommen vom Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter der NASA.

A huge payoff from the longevity of the LRO mission is the repeat coverage obtained by the LROC Wide Angle Camera (WAC). The WAC has a very wide field-of-view (FOV), 90° in monochrome mode and 60° in multispectral mode, hence its name. On the one hand, the wide FOV enables orbit-to-orbit stereo, which allowed LROC team members at the DLR to create the unprecedented 100 meter scale near-global (0° to 360° longitude and 80°S to 80°N latitude) topographic map of the Moon (the GLD100)!
