Ironically, at approximately the same time, Tower Records, the iconic juggernaut of the music retail market, made the same announcement. Something has happened to the music retail world and it seemed to have happened overnight. …Or did it? Also ich will ehrlich sein: wenn ich „Techno“ höre, denke ich wahrscheinlich als aller Letztes an Cuba. Ich meine, wer denkt schon an sowas. Der Doku von Florian Borchmeyer und Matthias Hentschler nach ist das allerdings ein ziemlich blödes Vorurteil. Er zeigt die Geschichte des Techno in Havanna seit dem Jahr 1998 und das ist sehr interessant.

Crossing The Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul ist ein deutscher Musikfilm aus dem Jahr 2005 und der erste abendfüllende Dokumentarfilm von Fatih Akin. Der Film wurde vom Komitee der Internationalen Filmfestspielen von Cannes für das außer Konkurrenz gezeigte Filmprogramm ausgewählt .

Protagonist des dokumentarischen Werkes ist der Berliner Musiker Alexander Hacke, bekannt als Bassist der Einstürzenden Neubauten, den Akin bei einer musikalischen Entdeckungsreise durch die türkische Metropole Istanbul begleitet. Vom Straßenmusiker bis zum türkischen Megastar fängt Hacke die vielfältigen multikulturell beeinflussten Klänge Istanbuls mit einem ständig bei sich geführten mobilen Tonstudio ein, bisweilen musiziert er auch spontan mit den türkischen Musikern zusammen.

This documentary was made three years after Jimi Hendrix’s untimely death. At the time it was an example of how a visual biography should be done, but some of the information in it needs revising in the light of new information uncovered over the years. The film contains concert footage spanning the Marquee in 1967 to his last UK performance at the third Isle of Wight festival in 1970; along the way we see classic performances at Monterey (1967), Woodstock (1969), Fillmore East (1969/70), and Berkeley (1970). A double album was released to tie-in with the film, containing the complete performances in the film, along with interviews with people in the film (not necessarily the same interviews). The film is worth seeing for Jimi’s performances, and to hear what his contemporaries have to say about him (Eric Clapton, Mitch Mitchell, Lou Reed, Mick Jagger, Pete Townsend, and others). Weil das in den letzten Tagen ziemlich oft von Google hier reinschneit, will ich dem auch mal gerecht werden. Also wenn man hier landet, soll man es hier auch kriegen. Liegt bestimmt daran, das jede Menge Leute da draußen das Riddim-Special zu Bob Marley gelesen haben. Ich auch.

Immer wenn ich in den letzten Tagen über Musik im Kontext zu Geld redete – und das tat ich sehr oft – fällt mir diese Aktion hier von The KLF ein. Ich weiß nicht mal warum dem so ist, aber so ist es nun mal. Ich persönlich finde ja, dass das mit Abstand beste Album der Band namens Chill Out, erschienen 1990, am wenigsten Würdigung erfährt. Es gibt Stimmen, die behaupten, dass wegen genau diesem Album das Genre später dann so hieß, wie es heute noch heißt: Chill Out. Auf vieles von denen kann ich so rein gar nicht, aber dieses eine Album ist für mich eines der wichtigsten in meinem Regal, wenn auch nicht das beste. Nur alleine das Cover ist ein absoluter Knüller.

Da gehen die also 1994 auf eine Insel und verbrennen eine Million britische Pfund! Natürlich behaupten bis heute sehr viele, dass die Scheine gefakt waren, aber was macht das schon. Der Symbolcharakter dieser Aktion haut auch dann noch voll durch die Tür. Und wenn die Kohle wirklich echt gewesen sein sollte, ist es das dickste Fuck you ans Geld als solches, was mir je unterkam. Eine extrem fette PR-Aktion für The KLF war es allerdings außerdem.
