I wanted to do something different from what has been done before with thoses shots. Something more dynamic and fast. After all, ISS travel through space at 28.000km/h! There are also more recent footage that have never been used (at least I think…) in other edits.
All the credit goes to the crew members of ISS expeditions 28, 29, 30, 31, 34, shot from 2011 to 2014.
The international Space Station weigh 377 tons, orbits the earth at around 350km from the surface, and does one spin around the earth in 1h30, at 28.000k/h! At 1’11 we can see a little refueling shuttle desintegrating back to earth. At 1’20, it’s a little telecom satellitte that is launch in orbit. The little green and purple lights you can see at 1’57 are respectively fishing boats and oil platforms offshore with the big city of Bangkok nearby.

Created for the grand depart of the Tour de France 2014 from Yorkshire, Ghost Peloton fuses performance cycling with athletic choreography performed by Phoenix Dance Theatre’s dancers, and the varied landscapes of race route. Each rider, bike and performer was illuminated using NVA’s bespoke LED light suit, which can instantaneously change colour, flash-rate and luminosity. The rhythm of movement from the choreographed actions of massed participants becomes a source of creativity in itself, extending perception of the immediate setting.
It’s epic public art, operating at the grandest scale, where physical surroundings become an open canvas carrying a new visual language, expressing mood and movement, comprised of form, colour and line.

In June of 2014, we spent 11 days surfing the Mentawai Islands. The conditions were perfect the entire trip with light offshore winds and plenty of swell to go around. Auf meinem To-do-before-in-die-ewigen-Jagdgründe-eingehen-Reisezettel stehen nicht viele Strecken, die ich bis dahin gerne genommen haben würde. Eine dieser Reisen aber wäre eine Fahrt mit der Transsibirischen Eisenbahn. Von Moskau nach Peking. Über Ulan-Bator.
Die Transsibirische Eisenbahn (russisch Транссибирская магистраль, Transkription Transsibirskaja magistral), kurz Transsib genannt, ist mit ihrer durchgehenden Kilometrierung von 9288 km die längste Bahnstrecke der Welt, mit mehr als 400 Bahnhöfen zwischen Moskau nach Wladiwostok am Pazifik. Sie ist die Hauptverkehrsachse Russlands.

Man sieht aus der Bahn raus halt soviel mehr als aus jedem Fliegerfenster heraus. Zumindest bei Tag, aber bei 9300 Kilometern dürfte man so einige Sonnen auf und wieder untergehen sehen.
Stanislas Giroux hat sich mit seiner Kamera auf genau diese Reise begeben und dieses Video davon mitgebracht. Ich will auch.

I travelled alone with my bag, half-filled with my video gear. At that time, I didn’t knew that my ticket for that seat 22 would be the beginning of a once in a lifetime journey.
Ein offenbar nicht ganz frischer aber ganz toller Fotoband des in München geborenen Fotografen Thomas Hoepker, der mit seiner Frau, der Journalistin Eva Windmöller, seit Beginn der 70er Jahre für mehrere Jahre in der DDR akkreditiert war und über die Politik und den Alltag in Ostberlin berichtete. Gemeinsam arbeiteten sie dort drei Jahre und vermittelten dem Westen ein Bild des Lebens im anderen Teil Deutschlands. In diesem Bildband dokumentiert Hoepker den Alltag in DDR von 1959 bis zur Wende: Aufnahmen von spielenden Kindern an der Mauer, Parteikundgebungen, Propagandaplakaten, alten maroden Fassaden und leeren Vitrinen im Supermarkt. Bei Magnum Photos kann man sich viele der im Buch enthaltenen Fotografien ansehen und die sind durchweg großartig.
