Kathleen Starrie und ihr Freund Daniel Gray aus Neuseeland haben Kathleens Mutter in Kanada besucht. Und weil es in Kanada total kalt und auch irgendwie voll langweilig ist, haben sie über die Tage ein Iglu gebaut, was die Farben eines Regenbogens trägt. Hier alle Fotos auf davon auf imgur.
Die bunten Bausteine haben sie über Wochen hinweg mit gefärbten Wasser in Tetrapaks gefroren und dann mit Schnee zusammengeklebt. Wunderschön.
The adventure began with a kernel of an idea from Brigid Burton, whose daughter Kathleen Starrie and boyfriend Daniel Gray, an engineering student, were coming for a winter visit from New Zealand. Wanting to “keep him occupied” during the frigid winter days that often dip down to -25 °F (-31 °C), last October she began filling paper cartons with colored water and setting them outside to form translucent ice bricks. She hoped Gray’s engineering skills would do the rest. Like a total champ he accepted the challenge and with the help of additional family and neighbors the team spent nearly 150 hours fitting the 500 ice bricks into place.

My graduation project. I wanted to create something that would not only be fun to watch, but also tell a bit more about the process of animating. Sometimes your ideas and creations seem to have a mind of their own, and although this might actually be a good thing, you just get frustrated because it gets further and further away from your original plan…
I animated the whole thing in Toonboom first, then printed everything and cut out a large part. Then, using stop-motion technique, I re-created the animation again. This allowed for me to show a bit of the huge amount of work that goes into animating and it gave me a way to make the animator’s presence a bit more tangible.

Endlich mal wieder ein nicht auf Hochglanz poliertes Skate-Video, welches die Zenga Bros auf dem Leeside Halloween Jam 2012 in Vancouver gedreht haben. Mit jeder Menge Staub, Rauch, Graffiti an den Wänden und Pyrotechnik. Sieht nach verdammt viel Spaß aus.

Die Idee, über längere Zeiträume Rückblicke seines Erlebten zu machen, ist nicht neu und geisterte schon die letzten Jahre im Regelfall als bewegte Diashow über die Videoportale. Fand ich auch schon ganz nett. Zumindest anfänglich, später dann eher ermüdend.
Jonathan Britnell hat das ganze jetzt perfektioniert und an jedem Tag des letzten Jahres eine Sekunde Videomaterial aufgezeichnet und das ganze dann zu einem Jahresrückblick zusammengeschnitten. 366 Tage in 366 Sekunden. Ich mag sowohl die Idee als auch die Umsetzung der selbigen.

In den Zeiten, in denen, wie ich immer behaupte, Google jedem russischen Autobesitzer eine Kamera schenkt um tolle Aufnahmen für YouTube zu machen, könnte man fast meinen, dass auch die womöglich ältesten Dash Cam Aufnahmen aus Russland kommen müssten. Kommen sie aber nicht, diese wurden am 24. April 1926 in New York aufgenommen. Von der New Yorker Feuerwehr nämlich.
Chief Kenlon [FDNY Chief] and his fire crew on their way to a fire in the first video, starting with the fire vehicle leaving the station, and then the camera was mounted to the truck for the balance of the video showing a „dash cam“ perspective. The second video shows the whole course of events, from the initial broadcast, warning, dispatch, travel and (of course), the fire being extinguished. All silent footage, with narration via text rather than voice.

Bevor ich mich in Intsagram verschossen habe, habe ich auf dem Telefon viel mit Hipstamatic fotografiert. Seitdem allerdings so gut wie gar nicht mehr. Und die Video-Funktionen und Apps, die mein Phone so hergeben, habe ich auch nie wirklich getestet. Weiß nicht mal warum, aber ist ja auch egal.
Vitùc hat mit seinem Telefon und Hipstamatic jetzt dieses kurze, aber durchaus sehenswerte Video gedreht. Vielleicht sollte ich doch mal gucken, was da so geht.
