Was manche Menschen so machen, was anderen vielleicht unnütz oder zeitverschwenderisch vorkommen mag, am Ende aber auch einfach nur schön sein kann. So wie diese Kette aus buntem Bonbonpapier.

Letzte Woche startete das Versorgungsraumschiff Progress MS-10 für die ISS in Baikonur mit der Mission, an die ISS anzudocken, was gelang. Der Start der Progress wurde vorher von der ISS aus gefilmt. Hier ist das Video dazu.

Die Vorzeichen dieser doch außergewöhnlichen Doku ziehen sich seit Monaten durch meine Filterblase und faszinieren mich sehr. Peter Jackson hat sich Schwarz-Weiß-Aufnahmen aus den Jahren des 1. Weltkriegs genommen und diese mit all den heute technischen Möglichkeiten mehr als nur koloriert, um daraus eine Doku zu machen, die heute in jedes Kino gehören sollte: They Shall Not Grow Old. Unter dem Einsatz modernster Restaurierungs-, Kolorierungs- und 3D-Technologien schuf er unter der Zuhilfenahme von 600 Stunden BBC-Archivinterviews einen intensiven, eindringlichen, authentischen und dokumentarischen Querschnitt von dem, was junge britische Soldaten im 1. Weltkrieg erleben mussten.

On the centenary of the end of First World War, Peter Jackson presents They Shall Not Grow Old. Using state of the art technology to restore original archival footage which is more than 100-years old, Jackson brings to life the people who can best tell this story: the men who were there. Driven by a personal interest in the First World War, Jackson set out to bring to life the day-to-day experience of its soldiers. After months immersed in the BBC and Imperial War Museums’ archives, narratives and strategies on how to tell this story began to emerge for Jackson. Using the voices of the men involved, the film explores the reality of war on the front line; their attitudes to the conflict; how they ate; slept and formed friendships, as well what their lives were like away from the trenches during their periods of downtime. They Shall Not Grow Old is directed by Kiwi filmmaker Peter Jackson and Paul Wheatcroft. The film will screen in US theaters for two nights only: December 17th & 27th.
Soweit ich das sehe, wird es diese Doku erstmal nur am 17. und 27. Dezember in US-amerikanischen Kinos geben. Aber ich bin sicher, dass sie auch hier früher oder später irgendwie zu sehen sein wird. Und dann gucke ich die. Ganz sicher. Hier der offizielle Trailer:

Orbit is a real time reconstruction of time lapse photography taken on board the International Space Station by NASA’s Earth Science & Remote Sensing Unit.
The structure of the film is built around a nested selection of Phaeleh’s last three albums; Lost Time, Illusion of the Tale & Somnus. The tone & pacing of each track influenced the choice of material used.
Typically each time lapse sequence was photographed at 1 frame per second.
Each sequence was processed in Photoshop. A dirtmap was made in order to repair dust, blemishes and hot pixel artifacts that would otherwise confuse the re-timing phase of the workflow resulting in strobes and distracting blurs.
Image processing techniques were used to emphasize features on the Earth’s surface. Every sequence consists of a number of layers that when masked, processed & blended correctly produce the final look of each shot.
To make sure each sequence was recreated faithfully to the actual rate of speed observed I referenced time-stamps on the first and last frame in the sequence and used frame interpolation software to produce the other 59 frames.
The length of the film is exactly the length of time it takes ISS to orbit the Earth once, 92 minutes & 39 seconds.

As dusk fell over Black Rock City, 600 luminous drones rose into a hypnotic display of technological choreography, accompanied by the poignant keys of Joep Beving. The drones were guided by a specially made algorithm that simultaneously allows both individual choice and movement as a group. The innovative technology made it possible to create a 3d image in the sky that could be viewed from multiple angles.

Die Wege, die Menschen nehmen, um sich auf irgendwelche Weise aus der Realität zu kicken, sind seit jeher auch außergewöhnlich. Dieser hier dürfte einer der außergewöhnlichsten sein, von denen ich bisher gehört habe: Teenager in Indonesien kochen sich gebrauchte Damenbinden, um durch das dabei entstehende Wasser high zu werden.
Ich kann es mir nicht recht vorstellen, aber die Chemikalien, die in den Hygieneartikeln beim Kochen freigesetzt werden, sollen wohl das Gefühl des High seins und Halluzinationen auslösen, so die indonesische National Drug Agency (BNN).
