Sicher sind die Shuttles Vergangenheit, aber ohne die Transportkapazität der Raumfähren hätte die ISS nie gebaut werden können.
Die Russischen Module dockten automatisch, aber alles andere wurde in den Cargo-Bays der Shuttles transportiert. 35 Shuttle Missionen und über 1000 Stunden EVA in denen 195 verschiedene Bauteile, die nicht in ein Soyuz Raumschiff gepasst hätten, transportiert und montiert wurden.
