It’s History erzählt die faszinierende Geschichte von Ein- und Ausgängen des weitläufigen, viel befahrenen U-Bahn-Systems in New York, die über die Jahrzehnte geschlossen und/oder vergessen wurden.

New York City’s subway system has a total of 850 miles of track, thousands of vehicles, and over a billion riders every year. So given all that, it’s no surprise that several subway stations didn’t catch on, leaving behind doors to buildings that were never used or whole entire stations that are now simply forgotten.

Mit Licht: Kartierung der ikonischen Orte New Yorks

Der Filmemacher Jordan Studdard wollte schon als Kind in New York leben. Nachdem er nun schon seit ein paar Jahren dort ist, schuf er eine Hommage an den Big Apple mit einem wandgroßen Stadtplan. Gespickt mit winzigen Lichtern, um die Orte zu markieren, die durch die Filme und Fernsehsendungen, die ihn inspirierten, berühmt wurden. DIY und ziemlich schön umgesetzt.

Eisenbahner bauen geheime Wohnungen in Bahnhöfen

Was in Berlin und Wien seiner Zeit als Kunstaktionen installiert wurde, ist in Kalifornien von der Realität eingeholt worden. Dort nämlich haben Bahnmitarbeiter geheime Wohnungen in Bahnhöfe gebaut, die bis dahin ungenutzte Büroflächen waren. Auch eine Variante mit dem Wohnraummangel umzugehen. Doof: sie wurden erwischt und gefeuert.

Transit workers found Worden’s Millbrae apartment in 2020, but didn’t discover Navarro’s secret hideaway inside the Burlingame station until an anonymous tip in 2022. Both were fired. … District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe told the San Francisco Standard that the apartments were a „convenience“ for the two former railway workers. „They figured the Bay Area [commute] really is lousy,“ he said.

Furby Robot Dog

Evan und Katelyn haben sich aus einem vierbeinigen Roboter einen Furby in der Größe eines Hundes gebaut und gehen zum „Gassi gehen“ mit dem durch einen Park. Weiß jetzt gerade nicht, wie ich und mein Hund auf das creepy Geschöpf reagieren würden.

My original plan was to cover it in fur, make it look like a cat, and see if she liked it. Even though Joobie wasn’t interested, at this point, we had kind of become attached to the idea of covering it in fur. And since it was already kinda creepy, we thought we’d just lean into that even more, and turn it into a walking, talking Furby.

2024 Total Solar Eclipse: Through the Eyes of NASA

Wenn ihr drei Stunden Zeit habt und die Sonnenfinsternis von vorgestern von verschiedenen Standpunkten aus in Echtzeit und von ganz nahem sehen wollt; bitte schön.

Watch a telescope feed of a total solar eclipse moving across North America on April 8, 2024, traveling through Mexico, across the United States from Texas to Maine, and exiting North America along Canada’s coast. Weather permitting, we will provide live views of the eclipse from several locations across the eclipse path, including showing the partially eclipsed Sun in different wavelengths of light.

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth and briefly covers the full disk of the Sun. This reveals the Sun’s wispy, white outer atmosphere, called the corona. Weather permitting, people throughout most of North and Central America, including all of the contiguous United States, will be able to view at least a partial solar eclipse.
