Kolorierte Fotos aus der Weihnachtszeit von 1910 in New York

Vlacz hat sich einige Fotos aus dem Jahr 1910 genommen, die damals um die Weihnachtszeit beim Einkaufen entstanden sind. Dann wurde die Bildqualität „nach oben geholt“ und die Fotos wurden koloriert. Eine kleine nostalgische Reise in Farbe.

Looking at these old Christmas photos from 1910 in New York it’s hard not to feel a sense of nostalgia, It’s amazing to think how much has changed in the last 100 years, and yet in someway how much stayed the same, there’s something touching about seeing these photos, These Photos are a wonderful glimpse into a bygone era.

I colorized , restored ,upscaled the photos to 4k Quality and applied face restoration and did audio mixing for this video

Klimaaktivisten entern den BER – Flugverkehr vorübergehend eingestellt

Klima-Aktivisten der „Letzten Generation“ haben heute Zäune des BER aufgeschnitten, sich dort auf dem Rollfeld festgeklebt und sind dort mit Fahrrädern unterwegs gewesen, was dazu führte, dass der Flugverkehr für eineinhalb Stunden unterbrochen werden musste. Einige Flüge fielen aus, andere wurden umgeleitet. Betroffen waren mehrere Tausend Passagiere. Ähnlich wie neulich schon auf dem Flughafen Schiphol.

Klima-Protestler der „Letzten Generation“ sind am Donnerstag unbefugt auf das Fluggelände des BER eingedrungen, der Flugverkehr musste zwischenzeitlich eingestellt werden. Das teilte ein Sprecher des Flughafens am Donnerstag mit. Erst nach eineinhalb Stunden konnten die beiden Start- und Landebahnen des BER gegen 18:20 Uhr wieder freigegeben werden, wie ein Flughafensprecher mitteilte.

In Kanadas größter Geisterstadt

Anyox war einst eine kleine unternehmenseigene Bergbaustadt in British Columbia, Kanada. Heute ist es eine verlassene und weitgehend zerstörte Geisterstadt. Die größte Kanadas.

The company town was a very large operation with onsite railways, machine shops, curling rink, golf course and a hospital. In the spring of 1918, Granby Consolidated built the first wooden tennis court in Canada, for additional recreation. That same year, incoming ships brought the Spanish flu epidemic to Anyox. Charles Clarkson Rhodes, the Chief Accountant for the Granby Consolidated operations in Anyox, died on October 29, 1918, while helping to treat patients in the Anyox Hospital. Dozens of workers and residents of Anyox died from that flu epidemic.

In the early 1920s, concrete pioneer and dam engineer John S. Eastwood designed a hydroelectric dam which, standing 156 feet (48 m) high, was the tallest dam in Canada for many years.[4] Anyox was almost wiped out by forest fires in 1923, but the townsite was rebuilt and mining operations continued. Acid rain from the smelter denuded the trees from the hillsides which soon became bare.

The Great Depression drove down the demand for copper, effectively the beginning of the end for Anyox. Operations continued, but were steadily scaled down while the company stockpiled 100,000,000 pounds (45,000 tonnes) of copper, three years of production, that it was unable to sell.[2] The mine shut down in 1935, and the town was abandoned. Salvage operations in the 1940s removed most machinery and steel from the town, and two forest fires, in 1942 and 1943, burned all remaining wood structures.

Wie ein Fiberglass Giant restauriert wird

In den 1960er Jahren war es in den USA ein Ding, sehr große Skulpturen aus Fiberglass aufzustellen. Die so genannten „Muffler Men“. Mittlerweile sind einige der Exemplare so ziemlich vergammelt und werden teilweise restauriert. Joel Baker erklärt diesen leicht skurrilen Vorgang.

Joel Baker is the owner of American Giants, a company that restores muffler men. Muffler men are 18- to 25-foot advertising giants that were popular in the 1960s and are becoming popular again.

He shows us how his team restores a Paul Bunyan muffler man. This includes patching up cracks on the giant, adding a structure inside, repainting it, and placing it in its new location.

Lebkuchenhäuser mit Salami und Käse

Charcuterie Chalets sind so etwas wie eine herzhafte Variante von Lebkuchenhäuser, nur dass die Deko nicht aus Zuckermasse sondern Salami, Käse, Bretzeln und anderen Dingen besteht, die mir in diesem Kontext gar nicht mal so lecker erscheinen. Aber vielleicht mag es anderen da ja anders gehen. Die Chalets kommen im Bausatz und kosten stolze 130 Dollar.

Each kit makes 2 medium sized houses (one A-Frame and one chalet) or 1 large chateau with dormer with delicious food leftover for eating! Depending on the style of house you choose, building will take 30-60 minutes!

Auch das Video überzeugt mich am Ende nicht so wirklich.

Katze versucht, sich in einem Koffer nach Florida zu schmuggeln

Ein Reisender am JFK-Flughafen in New York musste bei der Gepäckaufgabe feststellen, dass sich die WG-Katze, Smells, in seinen Koffer geschummelt hat, was von der TSA während einer routinemäßigen Röntgenaufnahme festgestellt wurde. Die Katze durfte nicht mit, wurde wieder nach Hause gebracht, der Kofferbesitzer buchte seinen Flug um und nutzte diesen dann.

People take strange things on planes — that’s nothing new. And the suitcase checked for a journey from New York JFK to Orlando, Florida, on November 16 certainly contained some oddities. As it rolled through the X-ray machine, TSA officials could see what appeared to be bottles, wine glasses, a pair of flip flops — and a life-size outline of a cat.

It turned out that the outline was life-size because the cat was a real cat: ginger, alive and, apparently, unharmed by its past few hours of being stuffed into a suitcase and flung around on its way onto the plane. A plane where, of course, it could easily have died in the hold during the flight.

Pallaskatzen, Manuls, gelten nach Grumpy Cat als die mürrischsten Katzen der Welt. Mit verhältnismäßig kurzen Beinen. BBC Frozen Planet hat die besondere Katzenart mal genauer unter die Lupe genommen.
