Ein nicht genehmigtes Snowden-Denkmal in einem Park in New York

Ein anonymes Künstler-Kollektiv hat letzte Nach in einem Park in Brooklyn eine Büste von Edward Snwoden enthüllt. Animal NY war dabei.

While most people slept, a trio of artists and some helpers installed a bust of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden in Brooklyn on Monday morning. The group, which allowed ANIMAL to exclusively document the installation on the condition that we hide their identities, hauled the 100-pound sculpture into Fort Greene Park and up its hilly terrain just before dawn. They fused it to part of the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument, a memorial to Revolutionary War soldiers. As of press time, the sculpture was still there.

Mittlerweile wurde die Statue erst verhüllt und wenig später wieder abgebaut. Ein Snowden-Denkmal in einem Park New Yorks mag man dort wohl nicht so gerne stehen haben.

Malte, der vor ein paar Tagen mit seinem Vogelhäuschen im Stile des Berliner Berghains so ziemlich genau einmal durch das gesamte Netz gegangen ist, schreibt mir, dass er sein „Birdhain“ aktuell auch eBay feilbietet um mit dem Erlös daraus ein weiteres seiner Kunstprojekte finanzieren zu können. Hier die Auktion, die aktuell bei 51.00 EUR steht.

Wer seine Vögel im Garten also gerne im oder vorm Berghain zu ihrem Futter kommen lassen möchte; bitte schön.

Dinge, die sonst keiner erfindet: The Reinvention of Normal

Dominic Wilcox ist Künstler, Designer und Erfinder, im Sinne dessen, wie man sich einen Erfinder so vorstellt. Ein moderner Daniel Düsentrieb. Seine Erfindungen sind welche, die vielleicht nicht jeder braucht, die aber trotzdem mal erfunden werden mussten. Wer sonst macht sich seinen Smoothie in einem Fußball, den er über die Wiese kickt?

Diskettenmammut

Wenn Prähistorisches aufeinandertrifft. Alex Solis, Designer aus Chicago, hat dieses Diskettenmammut entworfen, das man für $30.00 Dollar kaufen konnte. Praktischen Nutzen hat es nicht wirklich, muss Kunst ja aber auch gar nicht haben. Für die täglich kleine Freude auf dem Schreibtisch reicht es allemal und weil das Teil limitiert ist, wird es auf mehr als 200 Schreibtische nicht stehen. Dummerweise nicht auf meinem, denn es ist „Out of Stock“.

Kinetische Skulpturen als leuchtende Blüten: Shylight

Bei genügend Fallhöhe, in diesem Fall hier 9 Meter, öffnen sich die aus Seide genähten Blüten wie ein Fallschirmen und beginnen quasi zu blühen. Entwickelt, gebaut und genäht wurden die Shylights im Studio Drift, die vier Jahre daran werkelten.

Most man-made objects have a static form, while everything natural in this world, including people, are subject to constant metamorphosis and adaptation to their surroundings. Shylight is the result of a question: how can an inanimate object mimic those changes that express character and emotions? After a research period of five years, Studio Drift found the final form to express their idea. It is a lamp that looks alive because of unpredictable, natural-looking movements: it descends to blossom in all its glorious beauty, to subsequently close and retreat upwards again. The Shylight is created out of many layers of silk, which cause it to move with the grace of a dancer. The movement of the lights can be controlled by an iPhone or iPad, opening up a range of possibilities such as a choreography to music. The fact that people react in a spontaneous and emotional way to these performative sculptures shows how the philosophy of Studio Drift functions exactly as it was meant.

The Shylights have a fall distance of 9 meters making it possible to create large compositions for high ceilinged spaces. A shylight installation can always be expended with additional Shylights.

Der Jointbau-Kreative Valleyrec420 hat letzte Woche anlässlich seines 100tausendsten Instagram-Followers diesen Kraken-Joint gebastelt.

Laut der Time-Stamps hat er dann auch etwas länger gebraucht, um das Dingen zu rauchen. Ich bin zu alt für diesen Scheiß. Weitere Fotos nach dem Klick.

Keine Statue für die Dame, die mit ihrer Handtasche einen Nazi schlägt: Schweden macht’s anders

Hans Runesson machte 1985 dieses Foto einer Dame, die mit ihrer Handtasche auf einen Nazi-Skin einprügelte. Das Foto dürfte fast schon ikonischen Wert haben – wahrscheinlich kennt es jeder. Es wurde ganz zu recht zu _dem_ schwedischen Foto des letzten Jahrhunderts gewählt.

Nun sollte jener Dame und ihrer Handtasche eigentlich eine Statue gewidmet werden. Die Stadt Växjö allerdings wollte das dann so doch nicht, weil die Figur als gewaltverherrlichend wahrgenommen werden könnte. Also wurde die Aktion ab- und die Statue umgeblasen. Seitdem allerdings hängen die Schweden nun im ganzen Land Handtaschen um die Arme irgendwelcher, schon länger stehender Statuen.

Swedish town’s snub of a statue depicting a lady lashing out at a Nazi supporter with her handbag has sparked a creative protest, with handbags mysteriously appearing on statues across the country. Inspired by a photograph taken in 1985, a statue of the woman with her handbag in full swing was set to be installed at the main square in southern Swedish town Växjö. But the council’s culture committee changed their decision, claiming the statue promoted violence.
