William Woollard demonstrates the latest in car radio technology. The new radio has been designed entirely using solid state circuits and can therefore be very small, so it can be mounted in front of the windscreen, or even in the middle of the steering wheel. It automatically tunes itself to the strongest signal, thus eliminating the need to frustratingly retune as you travel, and gives consistent, crystal clear sound quality. Theoretically, the radio could also be switched on by a radio station to transmit emergency traffic reports and weather warnings to the motorist. Is this the future of in-car entertainment?
Der Street-Artist Fred Battle hat schon 2019 für sein Projekt „Solara“ alte Autos mit Hexadezimal-Farbcodes bestrichen und diese dann als Farbverlauf angeordnet, um sie von oben aufnehmen zu können.
Ich weiß gar nicht, ob derartige Erfindung überhaupt einen fühlbaren Nutzen hatten. Offensichtlich eher nicht, sonst wären sie vermutlich immer noch verbaut. Aber dabei zuzusehen, wie Scheibenwischer die Frontlichter von alten Autos wischen, erfüllt mich irgendwie mit Genugtuung. Nicht so sehr wie klappbaren Frontlampen von damals, aber schon etwas.
Wir in der DDR hatten mit dem Melkus einen wie ich finde recht hübschen Sportwagen, den man allerdings eher selten zu Gesicht bekam. Dass es in Russland auch den Versuch eines Sportwagens gab, wusste ich bis eben gar nicht, aber mit dem Mirov wollte man dort auch den Sport auf die Straße bringen. Tatsächlich wurden davon dann aber wohl nur zwei gebaut, so dass es bei einem Concept Car blieb.

1924 hatte man unter anderem in Chicago die Möglichkeit, sein Auto für 25 Cent in einer Auto Wash Bowl reinigen zu können. Quasi der Vorläufer der späteren Waschanlage.
The 24-meter-wide, ribbed concrete bowl was approximately 16 inch at its deepest point. Customers paid 25 cents to a clerk who tied a protective rubber cover over the radiator. The cars entered the bowl via a ramp and then drove in circles in the basin at a speed of approximately 10 mph per hour. The ridges in the concrete would vibrate the car and the water, creating a sloshing motion that helped wash all the mud off the chassis and wheels. The process took about 5 minutes. After leaving the bowl, customers could opt for a complete wash. In one of the bays (similar to a wash box) the rest of the car was cleaned. On a busy Saturday, about 75 cars per hour went through the wash basin.
