Ableton hat Musikern im letzten Jahr dieses acht Sekunden lange Sample zur Verfügung gestellt und den Produzenten dann 12 Stunden Zeit gegeben, aus diesen acht Sekunden einen Loop von 90 Sekunden zu produzieren. Die 800 Ergebnisse dessen finden sich jetzt in dieser YouTube-Playlist und sind in der Tat radikal unterschiedlich. Interessanter Aspekt, dass eben alle nach ganz eigenen Vorstellungen mit diesem Sample arbeiteten.
At Ableton Loop 2018, we wanted to explore the idea that artistic journeys can be radically different, even if they start at exactly the same place. And so, in collaboration with Andrew Huang, we presented the worldwide music making community with the Start Here sample challenge.
We provided one sample and asked music makers to use it to make a 90 second piece that could potentially be heard and discussed at a Loop panel discussion. The catch was: they only had 12 hours to make and submit their track. We received 800 submissions, all of which are in this playlist.

FACT hat für seine „Against The Clock“-Serie den Minimal Veteranen Efdemin in Berlin besucht und ihn 10 Minuten in seinem sehr klassischen Studio fummeln lassen. Frei von Computern und Software mit einem alten Sampler. So, wie das früher halt gemacht wurde. Sehr geil!

Für die Produktion seines Albums „All Melody“, das am letzten Freitag erschienen ist, hat sich Nils Frahm im Funkhaus Berlin, in dem einst auch der Rundfunk der DDR untergebracht war, den Saal 3 zu einem Studio eingerichtet, wie er es haben wollte. Vinyl Factory hat ihn dort besucht und sich das mal genauer angesehen.
Einen Kommentar hinterlassenLetztendlich entscheidet immer das erbrachte Ergebnis darüber, wie gut jemand im Umgang mit den zur Verfügung stehenden Technologien ist. So auch wie in diesem Fall. Dan Baker hat sich nicht mehr als ein iPad genommen und mit diesem in Garage Band ein für diese Verhältnisse beeindruckendes Cover des Buggles Hits „Video Killed the Radio Star“ aufgenommen. Well done.
Here’s my take on the Buggles‘ 1979 hit, „Video Killed the Radio Star“, using NOTHING but the fantastic on-board sounds of GarageBand for iOS10: so unbelievably powerful… All vocal parts recorded using the internal mic, with lead vocal processed through the internal guitar amp simulator: the original 1979 vocal was played back through a VOX AC30 guitar amp to get that sound. Everything here mixed on the iPad as well, with lots of effects not fazing it in the slightest. „Alchemy“ is an expensive sounding synth, also used on Logic Pro X, and the bass sound actually sounds like a Fender Precision.
