Nils Frahm hat heute zum Piano Day doch überraschend ein neues Album bei Erased Tapes veröffentlicht, das genau genommen so neu nicht ist. “Graz” heißt es und ist sein eigentliches Debüt-Album, welches er im Jahr 2009 im Rahmen seiner Abschlussarbeit „Conversations For Piano And Room“ aufgenommen hatte. Seitdem hat er es unter Verschluss gehalten und nun heute veröffentlicht. Und Nils Frahm geht ja nun wirklich immer.

Graz is a moment of time at the very beginning of Nils’ quiet revolution. The essential genius is already evident; the harmonic language of classical, and the immediacy of jazz. Nils seems to pull down each idea moment by moment, gently, to not scare away the muse. He describes: “sometimes when you hear a piano, you might think it’s a conversation between a woman and a man. At the same time, it can hint at shapes of the universe and describe how a black hole looks. You can make sounds that have no relation to anything we can measure.”

Unser aller Lieblingsklavierspieler Nils Frahm hat vorhin seinen wahrlich schon traditionellen Xmas Mix auf Mixcloud geladen und der wird hier, wie auch schon in den letzten Jahren, in den nächsten Tagen noch häufiger durchlaufen. Weil der einfach jedes Jahr verdammt gut ist und perfekt zum Fest passt.

again and again and again. if you might have thought that we are running out of cheesy, crackly, and lovely down tempo tunes from the past, you have been worrying for no reason!
throughout the entire year i was collecting, hunting and mining these tunes and even when i had to crawl into the dustiest corner of the record shop for them, i will never stop chasing beacuse our new age xmas tradition can never stop. esecially not in 2020.

…and wasn´t 2020 rather special? anyhow, despite all the fun fun fun we had, lets now get a drink or something stronger which helps us looking forward to whatever happens next. yikes!

Unser aller Lieblingsklavierspieler Nils Frahm veröffentlicht am 03.12.2020 sein neues Album “Tripping with Nils Frahm” nebst eines dafür produzierten Konzertfilms. Beides wurde im Jahr 2018 im Funkhaus Berlin während seiner “All Melody” Tour aufgenommen. “Fundamental Values” kommt dazu als Vorläufer.

Das Album erscheint bei Erased Tapes, der Film wird über die Streaming-Plattform MUBI Premiere feiern.

When Nils Frahm kicked off his world tour at Funkhaus Berlin in January 2018 to bring his highly acclaimed album ‘All Melody’ to the stage, an ambitious journey was just to begin: Over the next two years, Frahm played more than 180 sold-out performances, including the Sydney Opera House, LA’s Disney Hall, the Barbican in London, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, and several big festival stages around the globe. Yet the stunning setting of Funkhaus Berlin, renowned for its vintage grandeur and outstanding acoustics, and also home to Frahm’s studio where ‘All Melody’ was recorded, had occupied a unique place in the artist’s heart.

Uns aller Lieblingsklavierspieler Nils Frahm hat zum Pianoday 2020 bei Erased Tapes ein neues Album veröffentlicht, das ich mir jetzt mal in aller Ruhe anhören werde. Download bei Bandcamp.

To mark this year’s 88th day and as an acknowledgement to these unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in, Piano Day founder, pianist and producer Nils Frahm releases a collection of eight solo piano pieces titled Empty out now.

Conceived of just before Nils broke his thumb and composed the similarly intimate solo piano album Screws, Empty is a soothing vessel of eight simple and serene pieces originally recorded as the music to a short art film he shot with his friend and film director Benoit Toulemonde. Drifting through emotions from the stark and sobering opener First Defeat, to the gently euphoric No Step On Wing and the contemplative but hopeful closer Black Notes, with its poignant minute of silence, Empty is a comforting score for these turbulent times.

“When I came back from the hospital with a broken thumb and listened to the recordings, I felt they were unfinished. I decided to put them aside and started to work on my small album, Screws.

Nils Frahm lässt es sich auch in diesem Jahr nicht nehmen, einen weihnachtlichen Mix zu veröffentlich, so dass wir alle wieder den angemessenen Sound unterm Baum haben – und der ist in diesem Jahr wirklich sehr weihnachtlich.

Nils Frahms Playlist zum Piano Day 2018

Seit einigen Jahren wird jährlich am 29. März der Piano Day zelebriert. Weltweit spielen verschiedenste Künstler Konzerte und veröffentlichen Musik zu Ehren des Klaviers. Seit jeher natürlich mit dabei: Nils Frahm. Der hat in diesem Jahr diese Playlist zusammengestellt, von der ich mich jetzt ins Osterfest tragen.

Im Studio mit Nils Frahm

Für die Produktion seines Albums “All Melody”, das am letzten Freitag erschienen ist, hat sich Nils Frahm im Funkhaus Berlin, in dem einst auch der Rundfunk der DDR untergebracht war, den Saal 3 zu einem Studio eingerichtet, wie er es haben wollte. Vinyl Factory hat ihn dort besucht und sich das mal genauer angesehen.

Nils Frahms Xmas Mix 2017

Schon fast traditionell bringt uns Nils Frahm zum Feste einen Xmas-Mix, in dem er besinnliche Klänge zum Weihnachtssoundtrack webt. So auch in diesem Jahr. Der lief hier letzte Nacht schon zwei Mal und ich werde auch die nächsten Tage dazu kochen, essen, schenken, trinken, lieben, lachen. “Für mehr Zärtlichkeit zwischen den Tagen.” Schönes Ding. Sehr schönes Ding!

hohoho again?! indeed, nils frahm and torsten posselt reappear with their crackly, noisy xmas vinyl massacre. by today it probably does not need a big introduction anymore. please listen on repeat throughout the festive season, make sure you pair it with alcoholic baverages so you will dive smoothly into a hopefully cheerful 2018.

Album Trailer: Nils Frahm – All Melody

Nils Frahm wird im Januar 2018 sein nun schon siebentes Studio Album auf Erased Tapes veröffentlichen. “All Melody” wird es heißen und mit 12 Kompositionen kommen. Aufgenommen wurde es im Saal 3 der Funkhaus Studios Berlin, welchen Frahm dafür gänzlich für seine Zwecke anpassen konnte.

“In the process of completion, any album not only reveals what it has become but, maybe more importantly, what it hasn’t become. All Melody was imagined to be so many things over time and it has been a whole lot, but never exactly what I planned it to be. I wanted to hear beautiful drums, drums I’ve never seen or heard before, accompanied by human voices, girls, and boys. They would sing a song from this very world and it would sound like it was from a different space. I heard a synthesiser which sounds like a harmonium playing the All Melody, melting together with a line of a harmonium sounding like a synthesiser. My pipe organ would turn into a drum machine, while my drum machine would sound like an orchestra of breathy flutes. I would turn my piano into my very voice, and any voice into a ringing string. The music I hear inside me will never end up on a record, as it seems I can only play it for myself. This record includes what I think sticks out and describes my recent musical discoveries in the best possible way I could imagine.”
