I’ve made numerous voice and APRS contacts over the FM satellites and the ISS repeater. But I’ve always wanted to talk to an astronaut. Over the Memorial Day weekend I finally made that contact. I made contact with the ISS and talked to Woody Hoburg. What a thrill.
Erik Wernquist zeigt mit seinem Kurzfilm „One Revolution Per Minute“ wie es wohl wäre, sich auf einer kreisförmigen Raumstation zu befinden, die sich mit einer Umdrehung pro Minute dreht. Und das fühlt sich dann offenbar schneller an als man sich wohl vorstellen würde.
It takes place aboard the „SSPO Esperanta“ – a planetary orbiter that spins around itself at a rate of one revolution per minute (1 RPM). With a radius of 450 meters, the spin generates artificial gravity with an effect of approximately 0.5 g along its main deck.
With the „Esperanta“ I wanted to create a leisure-like environment, such as a hotel or cruise ship, and explore what the views could be like onboard when the orbiter visits some of the worlds in our solar system. I was also particularly interested in how light and shadows from the sun play around in the interior as it spins around.

Solus ist ein Sci-Fi-Kurzfilm von Jonathan Brooks und spielt an Bord der Internationalen Raumstation. Als der einsame Astronaut den Kontakt zur Erde verliert und die Station an Höhe verliert, fragt er sich, wie er überleben soll. Für den Film wurden Aufnahmen aus dem Archiv der NASA verwendet.

This zinnia was grown in orbit as part of the Veggie facility aboard the International Space Station.

„Sex im Weltall“ wäre ein fantastischer Name für eine Band, wie ich finde. Sex im Weltall ist aber auch Thema bei Forscher*innen, die sich diesem ob des perspektivisch zunehmenden Weltraumtourismus widmen wollen, denn es ist offenbar klar: wer ins Weltall fliegt, will dort auch knöpern und Fortpflanzung im All ist bisher nur wenig erforscht. Das soll sich ändern

Bei Weltraumtouristen besteht durchaus die Möglichkeit, dass sie im All Sex haben möchten – und auch haben. Folglich kann es auch zu einer Befruchtung in der Schwerelosigkeit kommen; wie bedenklich oder unbedenklich das ist, ist noch nicht erforscht. Diese risikobereite Personengruppe könnte laut den Forschern eher dazu neigen, Normen, Regeln und Vorgaben zu ignorieren.

Der finnische Filmemacher Jan Fröjdman hat sich Standbilder des Mars genommen, die der Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter über 18 Jahre hinweg aufgenommen hat, und diese zu diesem 3D-Video animiert. So könnte es aussehen, wenn man über den Mars fliegen würde.
The anaglyph images of Mars taken by the HiRISE camera holds information about the topography of Mars surface. There are hundreds of high-resolution images of this type. This gives the opportunity to create different studies in 3D. In this film I have chosen some locations and processed the images into panning video clips. There is a feeling that you are flying above Mars looking down watching interesting locations on the planet. And there are really great places on Mars! I would love to see images taken by a landscape photographer on Mars, especially from the polar regions. But I’m afraid I won’t see that kind of images during my lifetime.
Ich weiß, warum ich Medien wie diese kaum vermisse, auch wenn die auch heute manchmal noch zum Einsatz kommen dürften. Ziemlich sicher auch „in Space“. Aus Gründen. Und ergibt ja auch ein geiles GIF.
