Wand aus grünen Lasern über Hawaii

Letzten Monat hat eine Kamera eines Teleskops auf dem Mauna Kea, dem höchstem Berg Hawaiis eine Wand aus grünen Lasern eingefangen die sichtbar über den Himmel schossen. Matrix like. Nachdem man diese erst nicht genau zuordnen konnte, geht man mittlerweile davon aus, dass die Dinger von einem chinesischen Spionage-Satelliten kamen. Seitdem die von dort aus offenbar alles mögliche in die Luft schicken, redet kein Mensch mehr über UFOs. ;D

According to Dr. Martino, Anthony J., a NASA scientist working on ICESat-2 ATLAS, it is not by their instrument but by others. His colleagues, Dr. Alvaro Ivanoff et al., did a simulation of the trajectory of satellites that have a similar instrument and found a most likely candidate as the ACDL instrument by the Chinese Daqi-1/AEMS satellite. We really appreciate their efforts in the identification of the light. We are sorry about our confusion related to this event and its potential impact on the ICESat-2 team.

Der Techno Viking, animiert durch eine KI

Es hört nicht auf und das wird es wahrscheinlich auch nie wieder, solange den Leuten da draußen die Ideen nicht ausgehen, mit denen sie irgendwelche KI füttern, die sich dann dadurch ja weiterhin davon ernähren. Das mag im popkulturellen oder Meme-Kontext ja auch immer amüsant wirken, was es selbst für mich ja auch ist. Aber: dieses ganze KI-Ding wird, so glaube ich, noch deutlich tiefer reingehen, als wir alle uns aktuell ausmalen können.

Bis dahin hat irgendwer das Video des Techno Vikings an eine KI geschickt und diese das alles nochmal animieren lassen. Also nicht so richtig von neu selbst aufbauen, eher so Filter-drüber-Style. Aber die KI kennt jetzt auch das Video des Techno Vikings und wird es auch weiterhin irgendwie zu nutzen wissen. KI meets Memes meets Popkultur und macht Animationen draus.

Aran Islands 1929: AI Enhanced Time Travel 4K 60fps

Die Aran-Inseln umfassen 3 felsige Inseln an der Mündung der Galway Bay im Westen von Irland. Ich war noch nie da, würde aber wohl schon ganz gerne mal. Hier eine Zeitreise ins Jahr 1929 in 4k mit dazu gefügtem Sound. Eine KI hat die Aufnahmen ins Jetzt geholt.

Time travel back to experience the 19th century lifestyles of the Aran Islanders in Ireland. AI colorized and upscaled to 4K 60fps resolution with added sound.

The Banshees of Inisherin was filmed recently on Inishmore, the largest of the islands.

Über DVD-Menüs

Für die Jungen ist das wohl kein Thema mehr, wir Älteren aber kennen die Hürde von DVD-Menüs noch gut, die wir erst klicken mussten, um dann an einen Film zu kommen. Einige habe ich damals in iDVD noch selber erstellt. Der Guardian hat dem DVD-Menü einen recht umfangreichen Artikel gewidmet. So war das damals.

At the dawn of the DVD, menus were essential, as they listed – sometimes in very inventive ways – all the extras that were intended to enhance your viewing pleasure. “We had to convince people what made a DVD so special,” says Fletcher, who worked on some of the very first to be released in the US. The new format offered interactivity: games, gags, alternative scenes and hidden extras known as “Easter eggs” that persuaded people to drop £20 on their first ever Digital Versatile Disc. And because menu design was so new in the late 90s and early 00s, artists such as Fletcher had an impressive amount of creative freedom. “It was an open wild, wild west,” he says. “We could do what we wanted.”

Riesentastatur

Ingenieur Glarses hat vor ein paar Jahren mal eine riesige Tastatur gesehen, die er damals gerne gekauft hätte, was nicht möglich war. So entschloss er sich dazu selber eine zu bauen, die noch größer werden sollte. Das dauerte ein Jahr und kostete 12.000 Pfund. So hat er nun die wahrscheinlich größte Tastatur der Welt. Die unpraktischste wohl aber auch.

I have spent the last decade collecting every keyboard I could find. And in that time my collection has grown to include small keyboards, big keyboards. …There is a single keyboard that has continued to elude me to this very day. That is the giant keyboard. It’s a fully functional keyboard using giant switches and I really want it…and since I couldn’t buy one I spent the last year in 12,000 pounds to figure out how I could make one.

Ein unendlicher Lego Domino-Ring

JK Brickworks hat mit seinem Lego Domino-Ring ein Ding gebaut, dass die Welt vermutlich nicht unbedingt braucht, dem zuzusehen aber eben dennoch ganz geil ist – und so einen Ring in der Stube hätte vielleicht auch etwas Meditatives. Ein #perfectloop in echt und als Hardware.

The ring contains 64 dominos. A ramp runs along the inside of the ring, opposite the falling dominos, to lift them back up. A Mindstorms EV3 is used to monitor and control the speed of the ramp so that it matches the falling dominos.
