Warner Bros. bringt am 06.April mit Pandas eine Doku in die Imax-Kinos, die sich allein den Pandas der Chengdu Panda Base in China widmen wird und ich habe ein festes Kino-Date.

At Chengdu Panda Base in China, scientists are dedicated to protecting the species by breeding adult Giant Pandas in order to introduce cubs into the wild. This film follows one such researcher, whose passion leads her to initiate a new technique inspired by a black bear program in rural New Hampshire. What starts as a cross-culture collaboration becomes a life-changing journey for an American biologist who crosses an ocean to join her; a scientist from Inner Mongolia; and a very curious female cub named Qian Qian, born in captivity.

Wie Alligatoren im Eis überleben

Krasse Überlebenstechnik, die Alligatoren am Start haben, wenn das Wasser um sie herum gefriert. Sie halten ihre Mäuler aus dem Wasser während dieses darum zu Eis wird. So können sie auch atmen obwohl sie nicht mehr an die Wasseroberfläche auftauchen können. Dann hängen sie da so rum und tätigen eine Art Winterschlaf. So beobachtet im Shallotte River Swamp Park in North Carolina.

The alligators seem to instinctively know when the water is about to freeze, says [George] Howard, who is general manager of [Shallotte River Swamp Park]. They respond by sticking their nose above the surface at just the right moment, allowing the water to freeze around them.

Alligators then enter „a state of brumation, like hibernating.“ Alligators can regulate their body temperature in all sorts of weather, park officials said, and can essentially remain frozen in place until the ice melts.

Ein Hund, der Flugzeuge vor Vogelschlägen schützt

Piper ist mit seinem Herrchen auf dem Cherry Capital Airport in Michigan unterwegs, um die dort startenden und landenden Flugzeuge vor Vögelschlägen zu bewahren. Außerdem sorgt er für das geilste GIF der Woche.

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, cooler than a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce, it’s Piper the Aviation Bird Dog, ready for duty. Alongside his handler Brian Edwards, the dynamic duo protects the planes at Cherry Capital Airport from bird strikes. Birds can pose a huge threat to flight safety, but when they see Piper on his way, geese, ducks and gulls flee the runways. It’s an important job, but not one without its share of fun.
