Wunderschöne 10er Vinyl-Box: Gas Box

Wolfgang Voigts legendäres Ambient-Projekt Gas wird im Oktober eine wunderschöne 10er Vinylbox bekommen, die vier Releases vereint, die in den 90ern bereits auf Mille Plateaux veröffentlicht wurden. Das Alter macht da rein gar nichts, dieser Sound ist so zeitlos, wie Sound überhaupt zeitlos sein kann. Eine gute Gelegenheit, mal wieder in Vinyl zu investieren.

From foggy dub techno to anthemic electronica and loop-based ambient techno, the list of acts, tracks and even genres influenced by the full-lengths and EPs crafted under the GAS umbrella between 1995 and 2000 seems endless, giving these long sold-out original releases even more of a near-mythical quality. Following the much-acclaimed (and out-of-print) retrospective NAH UND FERN from 2008, Kompakt has decided that it’s high time for a reissue that features the core GAS albums originally released by the legendary Mille Plateaux imprint in the 90s – the records that introduced the project’s trademark sound between Schönberg and Kraftwerk, Wagner and the bassdrum, “an endless march through the underwoods of an imaginary, misty forest and into the disco.”

Inside this comprehensive anthology, listeners will experience ZAUBERBERG (celebrating the 20th anniversary of this essential album), KÖNIGSFORST, POP and the sought-after OKTEMBER 12″, all together available as luxurious 10LP+4CD edition. GAS BOX is the most comprehensive version of these releases ever: the vinyl features edits that were previously unavailable on wax – with each album being presented as 3LP pressing (instead of the original 2LP pressings), for extended playtime and superior sound quality, finally released the way this music was intended to to be heard. This highly collectible box set comes with an art-print book featuring newly processed and previously unreleased photography from the Königsforst woods around Cologne, in the style of the legendary, trail-blazing GAS artwork.

Eine Ambient-EP als interaktive Smartphone App: Loscil – Adrift

Neue Technologien schaffen bekanntlich neue Möglichkeiten. In diesem Fall hier im Bereich des Vertriebs von Musik. Der aus Vancouver kommende Scott Morgan hat jetzt als Loscil eine die EP „Adrift“ in Form einer App für iOS veröffentlicht. Android folgt.

„Adrift is a collection of 4 pieces of endless music by ambient musician loscil. The music uses structured random selection to continuously play with no beginning or end. The pieces were conceived as aural backdrops, seascapes of sound in which the listener is encouraged to drift in and out of; at times becoming focal points for deep listening and otherwise sinking into the subconscious. Each of the four pieces is named after an infamous ghost ship. Like the ships themselves, the music is adrift at sea, wandering with the tides, following the swells of the waves, aimless and lost.

Acoustic and electronic sources were recorded and produced as individual phrases and elements that the application selects and weaves together on the fly making each experience of the music slightly different. Adrift features original artwork by Gregory Euclide, compositions and production by Scott Morgan with musicians Kelly Wyse on piano, Mark Bridges on cello and Elisa Thorn on harp.“

Jean-Michel Jarre veröffentlicht EPs mit Tangerine Dream, Massive Attack und Gesaffelstein

Ich persönlich fand die Musik von Jean-Michel Jarre ja immer etwas tranig und bin mit dieser nie wirklich warm geworden. Alles viel zu pompös. Dennoch kann man ihm einen Pioniergeist im Hinblick auf die elektronische Musik nicht absprechen.

Seit 7 Jahren hat Jarre nun keine Veröffentlichung mehr gemacht und mir hat nichts gefehlt. Nun allerdings erscheinen im Juni gleich drei EPs, die er als Kollaborationen mit Tangerine Dream, Massive Attack und Gesaffelstein aufgenommen hat – und da kann man schon mal hinhören.

Erobique interpretiert als Babyman Black Sabbaths „Iron Man“

Erobique großartig wie immer. Diesmal als Babyman mit einer Disco-Version von Black Sabbaths „Iron Man“. Als limitierte 7″ auf Staatsakt.

Bronco „Babyman“ Babic ist gewissermaßen das ungarische Pendent zu William Onyeabor. Es liegen keine oder nur überlieferte biographische Informationen zu dem Mann vor, der in der 70er Jahren einige obskure Cosmic-Disco und Funkstücke zum Besten gab, die klangen, wie ein unerhörter Bastard aus Munich-Disco und P-Funk. „Iron Man“ ist eine Black Sabbath-Coverversion die Ozzy und Co. in die Disco beamen! Hit! Der dritte Re-Release in Original A-Sexy-Coversleeve. Limitiert auf 500 Stück! Desweiteren sind auch die ersten beiden 7inches „High Like A Fly“ und „Tiger Of The Night“ noch erhältlich!

EP-Download: Stumbleine – Infinite Overcast

Hach, wie schön! Chillwaver und Shoegazer Stumbleine hat vor zwei Tagen mal ganz nebenbei eine 8-Track EP mit dem Namen „Infinite Overcast“ auf Bandcamp abgelegt. Ich bin gerade bei Track fünf und mindestens genau so angetan wie immer, wenn Stumbleine seine Musik von Festplatten entlässt. Zu haben ist die akustische Perle nach dem Name your Price-Prinzip.

Mobys 2005er „Hotel: Ambient“ ab Dezember für umme zum Download

Ich kann mit Mobys Sound schon lange nichts mehr anfangen, die Ambient CD allerdings, die zum Teil seinem 2005er Album „Hotel“ beilag, mochte ich damals sehr. Diese wird nun geremastert ab 16. Dezember zum freien Download auf Mobygratis zur Verfügung stehen.

Moby’s Hotel: Ambient was originally released as an extremely limited bonus disc to 2005′s Hotel album. The CD captures some of Moby’s most sublime and immersive ambient works.

Moby has announced plans to re-release Hotel: Ambient next month with the original tracklist expanded to include previously unreleased efforts. The album has also been fully remastered.

Zwei neue Smashing Pumpkins-Alben und eine neue Nummer: „Being Beige“

Twitter weiß, dass ich mein letztes Wochenende so ziemlich komplett zu den alten Pumpkins-Platten verbracht habe. Und kiek an, heute kommt die Meldung, dass es in den nächsten Monaten gleich zwei neue Alben um die Band von Billy Corgan geben wird. So erscheint „Monuments To An Elegy“ am 09. Dezember 2014 pünktlich zu meinem Geburtstag (Wenn das kein Zeichen ist!). Das zweite Album wird dann den Namen „Day For Night“ tragen und im Laufe des Jahres 2015 kommen.

Eine Nummer gibt es schonmal zum Anfixen: „Being Beige“.

„Being Beige,“ the first finished track off the Smashing Pumpkins‘ forthcoming Monuments to an Elegy, has a simple title but its acoustic guitar and drum machine intro builds toward an urgent, memorable chorus, where singer Billy Corgan repeats the line, „The world’s on fire“ as the full band fills out the previously sparse tune.

Monuments, due December 9th, will continue Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, the super-album that began with 2010’s Songs for a Sailor and will conclude with 2015’s Day for Night.

Thom Yorkes neues Album “Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes” per BitTorrent veröffentlicht

Heute erschien ziemlich überraschend Thom Yorke’s neues Album “Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes”. Das kann sowohl als Deluxe Vinyl Edition als auch als abgespeckte BitTorrent Variante erstanden werden. Der Torrent kostet im Bundle $6.00, ein Song + Video können zu dem für umme runtergeladen werden. Es ist zu erwarten, dass das Album sich via BitTorrent auch ohne Zahlung ganz ordentlich verbreiten dürfte. Nicht so wie U2, aber dennoch wird es wohl auf nicht unerheblich vielen Rechnern landen. .

Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes is a new eight-track record from Thom Yorke.

A record born of silver darkness, pressed onto heavyweight 180g white vinyl completed with undersize 75mm centre labels, housed within heavy white board inner and outer sleeves.

These are printed with a metallic silver laminate then multi-tone black and a striking neon green; the whole is enclosed in a bespoke anti-static shield bag – a metallised laminated material usually used by the electronics industry for protecting components from electrostatic interference. The bag is printed with neon green on both sides, and has a resealable grip closure.
